Central Library’s 90th Celebration Event

On Sunday 16 June, the Trustees spent a memorable day at Central Library as part of the 90th Birthday Celebration Extravaganza (pic: Trustees at the event with Lord Mayor, Cllr Paul Andrews).
Visiting families were treated to lots of fabulous free entertainment, funded by the Trust, The Granada Foundation and The Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the venue’s grand opening in 1934, including:
Community Performances – including music and dancing from local Chinese, South Asian, Mexican, Hungarian and African artists
Acoustic sessions
A RNCM Jazz Trio and String Quartet
1930’s Mary Poppins Characters (the book was published in 1934!)
A presentation by the Lord Mayor to our young winners who designed new library cards
Hands on crafts
Edible Storytime
Manchester Histories Shadow Theatre
Trustee, John Rooney, commented: ‘Libraries are all about people and today reflected how important they are for learning, curiosity, socialising, entertaining, wellbeing and fun! Ninety years on, Manchester Central Library is going from strength to strength!’
