John is originally from Belfast and has lived and worked in local government in Greater Manchester since 1990. Beginning his career as a Town Planner, leading on regeneration schemes, he has widespread experience of working with colleagues, partners and residents to transform services at corporate and neighbourhood levels. As Director of Neighbourhood Delivery at Manchester City Council, John’s responsibilities among other things include Libraries, Galleries, Culture, Leisure and Events. John is also a trustee of Manchester Concert Hall Limited and is a director of Sports City Management Company. He is passionate about the role of libraries in supporting and enabling communities and the important role they play in addressing inequalities, allowing access to services, improving wellbeing and inspiring children and young people. John is excited about joining the Development Trust and helping build on the excellent achievements and reputation of Manchester’s Libraries Service.
